• soul-mate au where a timer goes off in their head and their wrists when they make eye contact •

soul mate                                                                                                                                                  noun                                                                                                                                           a person with whom you have an immediate connection the moment you meet - a connection so strong that you are drawn to them in way you have never experienced before.

He noticed the number in his wrist getting lower and lower. Akaashi felt excitement brewing in his chest, with hints of trepidation here and there as well. What kind of person would they turn out to be? What would they look like? No one really knows for sure what their soulmate looks like. They just have to find out eventually.

When Bokuto was babbling about the new practice match with Karasuno later this week, Akaashi had counted down to the exact time of 4:23 in the afternoon, which could only be one thing. His soulmate would be there at the match as well, just as he had expected. Now he guessed that he would just have to see how this would play out.

Though the gymnasium was quite humid, especially for a person not used to the athletic lifestyle, Akaashi had too many things on his mind at the moment to care about such irrelevant things. Such thoughts being who exactly was his soulmate, and what they were doing at a highschool volleyball practice match.

Now Akaashi was a very meticulous and diligent individual. He would constantly get everything that occurred in his life in order, and he was very organized. So, in this whole soulmate situation Akaashi expected a quiet, outspoken person that would in a way resemble his own personality.

What he didn't expect, however, that his original assumption was indeed not correct. What he hadn't expected though was just who it was.

Akaashi had heard of the name (l/n) (y/n) before. But what he didn't expect were them to be polar opposites. They didn't go to an official team because of a previous ankle injury, but they helped out the volleyball team during practices. They were known for there loud, boisterous exterior and they're effective morale boosting personality.

The moment he walked into the gym, he was greeted by a volleyball being thrown right into his face. Widened (e/c) widened before him as your form rushed towards his. And that's when a mental timer went off inside of his head.

A loud, "Oh my god! I'm so sorry, are you okay?!" Was heard erupting from the (h/c) person in front of him.

Akaashi stared at him with his eyes slightly more widened than they were before. The clock on his wrist struck zero as the (e/c) being walked up to him to introduce their self. Right at that moment, Akaashi just stood there, petrified with shock, although keeping his calm exterior.

"I-it's you?" Maybe not the best conversation starter.

(Y/n) smiled outwardly as they held out their hand, inviting him to shake it, which he did without hesitation, "Hi, I'm (l/n) (y/n)."

"My name is Akaashi Keiji. It's nice to meet you."

Everything that society guided them to up to this moment seemed useless. Akaashi, being more introverted than extroverted, had never been good with his communication skills. Well, at least with people he had never met or had talked to before. And nothing had prepared him to this extent, probably one of the most important events in his life.

(Y/n) picked up the stray volleyball that had originally been thrown at their soulmate's face, giving them a soft smile, "So, I believe we're soulmates, huh."

Akaashi nodded and a ghost of a smile developed upon his features with a bright gleam in his green eyes, "It appears to be so, (l/n)-san."

Akaashi looked into their shining orbs as he offered his hand to theirs, which they kindly accepted. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.
